“Are You Good Enough For Heaven?” The
Scribes and Pharisees of Jesus’ day were obedient and faithful but often
their own self righteousness would get in the way. They were the
interpreters of God’s law and very often showed little of God’s grace.
They wanted to cut away the unrighteous and make God unobtainable. God
had to work around them by raising up humble, obedient, and simple
persons, who only wanted to allow God’s spirit to live in and work
through them. Is God’s spirit living in you?
Do you realize that heaven is available now? We can get a taste of
heaven if we are living for Jesus now. God is looking for persons who
realize they are not good enough and need God’s grace and forgiveness.
Sunday we will look at Gospel rather than Law. We will be challenged to
receive heaven new. Come and receive a blessing. We hope to see you
Sunday.
In Christ,

With
Much Appreciation
Dear Friends,
Jan and I want to thank all of you for your prayers, e-mails, cards,
phone calls and thoughts during my recent recovery period from falling
off of a ladder. We especially want to thank the Upper Room Sunday
School Class for the delicious prepared food, the food shopping and lawn
mowing that they have provided during my recovery. It is always nice to
know that we have such caring and loving friends at Broadway.
Bill & Jan Dempster
An
Elephant Size Thanks
Thank you for everyone that brought items to the sale.
Special thanks to the youth that spent many hours in preparation for the
sale and then got to the church at 7:00 a.m. and spent most of the day
here on Saturday. The sale brought in $1,300.00. 10% of all youth fund
raisers go to the “Youth Service Fund.” Most of this money will go to
the American Cancer Society Relay for Life with some going to support
the Estonia mission trip this summer.
Just
A Reminder
Don’t forget the hike to Whiteoak Sinks which is
planned for this Saturday, April 12. The UMM is sponsoring the hike.
Participants will meet in the church parking lot at 8:30 a.m. while the
UMM has a brief meeting, then we will head to the Smokies. Any questions
call Bob Hayes, 984-5149.
and
Special Auction
On Wednesday, April 30th, you are invited to the UMW
5th Wednesday Evening Dinner for a real treat! This is always a special
occasion with delicious food, but this month’s will be extra special!
Why? Because it will be a fund-raiser for Greg, Nancy, Allison and
Rebecca Bradley, who will be going on a short-term mission to Estonia
this summer. The children, young people and church school classes are
helping raise funds for their trip.
The Broadway Knit-Wits Knitting/Crochet Group will have themed baskets
for auction at the dinner and you will have the opportunity to bid on
baskets with at least one hand-made item by the Knit-Wits. Some of the
themes include a Beach bag with items for the pool or beach, a
Wintertime basket with cap/scarf/mittens, a Kitchen strainer filled with
hand-made kitchen items, a Christmas tote fill with cap/scarf/Christmas
tree decorations and hand-painted Christmas cards, a Tailgate tote with
“big orange” items for your first football game, a Snuggle-down-and-read
basket with a lap-robe/pillow/bookmarks and devotional book, a Foot Care
basket with hand-made items and a foot treatment donated by Genny
Pope...and much, much more made for your pleasure by Broadway’s
Knit-Wits.
PLUS all these items will be auctioned off by our Auctioneer
Extraordinaire, The Rev. Bob Hayes! (Could he possibly be a Knit-Wit?)
Come and help raise funds for the Bradley’s by making a big bid on these
items!
If you are not aware of the Knit-Wit Group, we will be two years old
this fall, and have donated knitted and crocheted items to many mission
projects, including Fran Lynch’s mission in Alaska, Wesley House
Community Center in Knoxville, Holston Home for Children, pink
chemo-caps and scarves for Breast Cancer Survivors at Blount Memorial
Hospital, caps/scarves to the Hispanic Community in the Maryville
District, scarves to sailors on the USS Greeneville when they moved from
Southern California to New England in the wintertime, blue square to the
“Knit-a-River” Project in England to encourage the G8 to provide clean
water/toilets for countries that don’t have them, (over 100,000 blue
squares made up this knitted river, which was taken to No. 10 Downing
St. prior to the meeting), caps, scarves and afghans to a local women’s
shelter, many prayer shawls and lap robes to church members and local
nursing homes, plus Barbara Larason has made hundreds of premie
caps/booties and baby blankets as her personal mission for hospitals
here and in other areas. We helped the Girl Scouts earn a badge by
teaching them how to knit a square to make blankets for a mission in
Mexico. We are a busy group of ladies that have a good time working on
projects to help others, and we hope each stitch will bring God’s love
to the recipients of our wares. We meet each Monday morning at 10:00 in
the Church Parlor. Join us and you can be a Knit-Wit, too!
