“Father,
Forgive Them”
Jesus’ words on the cross still speak directly to all of us right here
and now. “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Do you
know the forgiveness of God’s Love? Why is it we can receive
forgiveness, but we can’t offer any? Jesus tells us that the forgiving
grace of God needs to be extended to our brothers and sisters.
Forgiveness is an action of grace.
Many people find it difficult to offer love and grace. We live in
relationship. Many of our relationships are broken. God offers
reconciliation. When we are hurt or angry, we must lay aside these
stumbling blocks and listen to God. God will guide us in love. Come and
explore the gifts of God’s forgiving love. You are forgiven. You do not
have to be lost in your sins. You do not have to hold a grudge.

Last Chance To Sign Up For
Rugby
The Odyssey group will leave at 8:15 a.m., Thursday,
April 26, to go to the Rugby community. While in Rugby we will have a
walking tour which will include the Thomas Hughes Free Public Library,
the Kingstone Lisle Home and the Christ Church. We will also view a film
on the history of Rugby. Following the tour we will have lunch at the
Harrow Road Cafe and shop in the Rugby Commissary. We should be back at
Broadway by 4:00 p.m. Cost for the day is $10 which includes admission
and gas. We will order from the menu and pay for our own lunch. Please
sign up in the church office, 982-6192, by Monday, April 23.
Sign Language Class To
Continue
The American Sign Language class will continue for
another three weeks on Sundays at 4:30 p.m.. They will sign a song and
share what they have learned at both worship services on Mother’s Day.
What Is Your Talent?
We will have our annual talent show this year on
Wednesday, May 2. Our meal will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by the show at
6:30 p.m. in the W. R. Allen Hall.
God did not bless all of us with musical talents, but He did give each
of us individual talent and we hope you will share your gift with your
church friends. We will have tables set up to display your talent items
– art, poetry, scrapbooks, knitting, food, needlework, woodworking, etc.
If you would be willing to give a demonstration, that would be great,
but if not, just a display will help us know more about you and the
things that interest you.
Those of you who are blessed with musical talents, storytelling,
reading, comedy, etc. are asked to perform for us in one of our most
enjoyable programs of the year. Whether you are a beginner or one who
has many years of experience, we would like to hear your presentation.
Please call Elizabeth Mize, or the church office, 982-6192, to reserve
your spot.

2007 Conference Mission Projects
The Holston Conference has two opportunities for Broadway to
participate in mission projects this Spring. For the "hands on" project, the
Conference has challenged the Maryville District to provide 300 school supply
kits to be sent to Liberia. The Missions committee has set the goal for Broadway
to fill 15 of these bags. Empty bags with the list of needed items were placed
in each Sunday school classroom, in the Narthex and on the table outside the
church office on April 15th. Each bag must contain the items listed below and
must also include $5.00 per bag to cover shipping costs. To help us achieve our
goal, please either fill the bags with the items on the list or place a $25
check in the bag and we will shop for you. Please return the bags to Nan Taylor,
Barbara Tiller, Sharon Mitchell, Sandra Walker or the church office no later
than May 20th. If you or your group would like to help but don't have an empty
bag, please contact one of the committee members or place a check in the
offering plate with "school kits" on the memo line. List of items for the bag: 3
70 count spiral notebooks, 1 coloring book, 2 12 packs of pens (blue or black
ink,) 1 small dictionary, 2 boxes of 24 count crayons, 1 small poncho (these are
usually available at Wal-Mart), 2 12 packs of pencils, 1 12 inch ruler, 1 small
Bible.
The other Spring Mission Project will be a special offering to benefit "Living
God's Dream"-our ongoing mission work in Brazil. The goal of the Holston
Conference is to raise $100,000. Our offering will be brought to Annual
Conference in June and Broadway will receive Conference Advance Special credit.
We have a wonderful video regarding the work of the United Methodist church in
Brazil and will show it to you at our worship services in early May. The date
for this special offering has been set for Sunday, May 20th.
We appreciate all you do to support the mission work of the Holston Conference
and Broadway United Methodist Church.
A Word From The Library
Asbury - a 50 Year Anthology which describes and celebrates a
half-century of service to seniors has been donated to the church library by
Larry and Susanne Martin.
It is dedicated in honor of the many members of Broadway United Methodist church
who have been and are an important part of the legacy and future of Asbury
Place.
It is displayed on the little table just inside the door of the library.

Fifth Sunday Offering ForHolston Home
United Methodists in the Holston Annual Conference have a
unique opportunity on each Fifth Sunday of the year to share in the
ministry to children in need through Holston United Methodist Children’s
Home in Greeneville. For 108 years, this ministry has been helping
children in the Name of Christ to be successful. Your generous gift on
April 29th will make a difference.
An Afternoon Of Fun Is Planned
Where can you find a Saturday afternoon of live music,
shopping, fun and the best hickory-smoked pork BBQ in Blount County,
while giving to a good cause? It’s the Festival of Hope, scheduled from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Green Meadow United Methodist
Church, 1633 Louisville Road, in Alcoa.
Proceeds from the Festival of Hope benefit Green Meadow’s School of
Hope, a mission that equips teenage parents and parents-to-be who have
had their education disrupted by unplanned pregnancy. Young people who
find themselves in that situation often drop out of school. The School
of Hope is an alternative recognized by the Blount County, Alcoa and
Maryville school systems, as well as the state of Tennessee Department
of Education.

Choir Sings Familiar Hymn Text
This Sunday the Chancel Choir will sing the moving text
“Jesus Paid It All” arranged by Joan Pinkston. This text seems to have
been divinely inspired. We marvel at the workings of God on our behalf.
In 1865, an obscure woman, Elvina Hall, scribbles a poem on the flyleaf
of her hymnal during the sermon one morning in the Monument Street
Methodist Church in Baltimore, MD; at the same church, John Grape, the
amateur organist, a coal merchant by trade, unknowingly creates a
matching tune; the pastor, Rev. George Schrick, provides encouragement
by bringing together the text writer with the tunesmith; and a wonderful
hymn is born and has since found an important placed in our church
hymnals and in turn has ministered spiritual challenge and blessing to
countless numbers of people for more than a century. Have you penned
words of response to a sermon you heard: perhaps a poem, a short
devotional, a note to a friend, a memo to remember later? What a
blessing to respond to the word of God as it is interpreted through the
pastor during worship in such a way as to stir in others deep feelings
of God’s love and sacrifice on our behalf. How could you share God’s
presence in your life with others? Perhaps the next great hymn may come
for Broadway United Methodist Church during Rev. Moore’s sermon.
Got Family?
Please join us on Sunday, May 6, following the second
service for food, fun and fellowship as we celebrate families. Come and
see what’s new in our Children and Family Ministries!!
Other highlights will be door prizes, entertainment (a ventriloquist and
puppets), and program information about a new ministry for families.
Please bring a dish to share! Drinks will be provided. Hosted by the
Children’s Department and Family Education Committee
Summer Trip to Amish Country and Lancaster Play
Plan to enjoy a day in the Amish country in Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania, and see a play at the Millennium Theatre in Ronks.
The trip is planned for Tuesday, June 26, through Thursday, June 28. The
group will spend the morning and early afternoon at the Kitchen Kettle,
an Amish historical area in Intercourse, PA, where shopping abounds and
museums of Amish life thrive. There is a quilting museum across from the
visitors’ center and plenty of food sampling centers to make quite a
lunch. One could even take a buggy ride with an Amish family. In the
afternoon, we will go to the Sight and Sound Theatre to see “In the
Beginning,” a musical play about God’s creation of the world. Following
the show, the group will eat a sumptuous feast at the Bird-in-Hand
Restaurant.
The cost of the trip is $240 including room, show tickets, feast, and
gas (for the bus!). Make your reservations with a $50 deposit though
Judy in the church office at 982-6192. The deadline for reservations is
May 25. Seats on the bus are available on a first-come-first-served
basis.

With Much Appreciation
Dear Friends,
We appreciate all of the calls, cards and prayers during Al’s recent
procedures and continuing recovery. We feel blessed to have such a
wonderful Broadway family.
Al & Jeanne Redwine
Broadway Friends,
I want to thank the members of Broadway UMC for their prayers, visits
and phone calls after my recent surgery. They were all greatly
appreciated. It really helped.

Choir Joins MC Alumni Celebration
On May 5, Chancel Choir members will join the host of
Maryville alumni in a concert of favorite compositions from the many
years of Maryville College’s infamous choral tradition. The concert
celebrates the legacy of Wilson Chapel in the life of the arts on the
campus. This will be the last concert in the Chapel before it is
demolished to prepare for the construction of the new Fine Arts Center
on the campus.
Former directors of the choral and vocal program have been invited to
direct several selections during the concert. Bob Ergenbright, director
1983-1989, will lead the group in “He Watching Over Israel” from ELIJAH
by Mendelssohn and Harry Bright’s energetic “I Hear a Voice a-Prayin’.”
The organizers of the event expect to see over 300 singers in the Alumni
Choir. Watch the newsletter next week for more details on the concert.
