“Are You A Real Christian?”
In this day and age we see many persons who would rather be superficial than genuine. They compromise their spiritual and religious values for worldly pleasure or gain. When God is our number one priority, our lives take on an agenda of spontaneity and surprise. We are challenged to back up our pledge of faith with action. People, challenges, and projects seem to come our way. They need attention and resolution.

Are you a real Christian, or just a respectable one? Most Christians are respectable, but it takes a committed one to be real. Most people want to live peacefully and in relationship to others. However, when it comes to responding to the challenges that break the heart of God, we are slow and reluctant. We find ourselves wanting to remain comfortable and secure. When Christ calls a person, He calls us to think less of self, and more of God’s call.

Are you responding to God’s call? Are you a real Christian, or just a respectable one? There is a difference. Come and be challenged. Come and be open to reality.

                                               In Christ,

Helping Hands Needs Your Help
Due to high heating bills received in March for February, our Helping Hand fund is almost depleted. We are still receiving a large number of calls for help. If you are able to help us replenish our fund we would greatly appreciate it. We help people every six months with utility bills and medication. Occasionally we will help someone with a motel room for one night. Checks can be made out to BUMC and mark them Helping Hand. Thank you for your help.

Broadway Breakfast To Meet
The Broadway Breakfast group will meet at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, at the Airport Hilton. This activity is open to any member or friend of Broadway. This is a time for fun, food and fellowship. If you would like to attend contact Judy in the church office, 982-6192, to make a reservation.

Fifth Sunday Offering Is This Week
Many children, due to circumstances not of their own making, have never felt love, joy, appreciation, or success. We can give thanks that Holston Home exists to help children find fulfillment. Please be generous with your FIFTH SUNDAY gift to Holston Home on Sunday, April 29.

What Is Your Talent?
We will have our annual talent show this year on Wednesday, May 2. Our meal will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by the show at 6:30 p.m. in the W. R. Allen Hall.

God did not bless all of us with musical talents, but He did give each of us individual talent and we hope you will share your gift with your church friends. We will have tables set up to display your talent items – art, poetry, scrapbooks, knitting, food, needlework, woodworking, etc. If you would be willing to give a demonstration, that would be great, but if not, just a display will help us know more about you and the things that interest you.

Those of you who are blessed with musical talents, storytelling, reading, comedy, etc. are asked to perform for us in one of our most enjoyable programs of the year. Whether you are a beginner or one who has many years of experience, we would like to hear your presentation.

Please call Elizabeth Mize, or the church office, 982-6192, to reserve your spot.

Children’s Day
The Holston Conference will be hosting the annual Children’s day at Camp Wesley Woods on Saturday, May 12. This is a fun day at camp, with hiking, canoes, and cool crafts. Reserve your place by filling out a summer fun registration form, available in the church office.

Summer Trip to Amish Country and Lancaster Play  Plan to enjoy a day in the Amish country in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and see a play at the Millennium Theatre in Ronks.

The trip is planned for Tuesday, June 26, through Thursday, June 28. The group will spend the morning and early afternoon at the Kitchen Kettle, an Amish historical area in Intercourse, PA, where shopping abounds and museums of Amish life thrive. There is a quilting museum across from the visitors’ center and plenty of food sampling centers to make quite a lunch. One could even take a buggy ride with an Amish family. In the afternoon, we will go to the Sight and Sound Theatre to see “In the Beginning,” a musical play about God’s creation of the world. Following the show, the group will eat a sumptuous feast at the Bird-in-Hand Restaurant.

2007 Conference Mission Projects
The Holston Conference has two opportunities for Broadway to participate in mission projects this Spring. For the "hands on" project, the Conference has challenged the Maryville District to provide 300 school supply kits to be sent to Liberia. The Missions committee has set the goal for Broadway to fill 15 of these bags. Empty bags with the list of needed items were placed in each Sunday school classroom, in the Narthex and on the table outside the church office on April 15th. Each bag must contain the items listed below and must also include $5.00 per bag to cover shipping costs. To help us achieve our goal, please either fill the bags with the items on the list or place a $25 check in the bag and we will shop for you. Please return the bags to Nan Taylor, Barbara Tiller, Sharon Mitchell, Sandra Walker or the church office no later than May 20th. If you or your group would like to help but don't have an empty bag, please contact one of the committee members or place a check in the offering plate with "school kits" on the memo line. List of items for the bag: 3 70 count spiral notebooks, 1 coloring book, 2 12 packs of pens (blue or black ink,) 1 small dictionary, 2 boxes of 24 count crayons, 1 small poncho (these are usually available at Wal-Mart), 2 12 packs of pencils, 1 12 inch ruler, 1 small Bible.

The other Spring Mission Project will be a special offering to benefit "Living God's Dream"-our ongoing mission work in Brazil. The goal of the Holston Conference is to raise $100,000. Our offering will be brought to Annual Conference in June and Broadway will receive Conference Advance Special credit. We have a wonderful video regarding the work of the United Methodist church in Brazil and will show it to you at our worship services in early May. The date for this special offering has been set for Sunday, May 20th.

We appreciate all you do to support the mission work of the Holston Conference and Broadway United Methodist Church.
