“The
Gift
The fourth Sunday of Advent is here.
We have put up greenery, sang and heard Christmas music and pondered our
relationship with God. God wants to have a relationship with us. God has
sent His Son to pay the price for our sins and teach us about love and
grace. Sunday we will discover and hopefully claim that we are part of
God’s family. When we accept Jesus our lives are changed for the better.
However, too many accept Jesus and then fall back into selfishness and
sin.
Sunday we will explore the precious gift God has given in His Son Jesus.
We will see what we must do to proclaim the gift. If you claim the gift
of God’s Son you will proclaim Him in the way you live. We have too many
Christians today who are not growing in the faith and making any
difference for God’s kingdom. What must we do to claim and proclaim the
transforming nature and power of
Jesus? Come Sunday and receive a blessing. Come and claim the gift God
wants you to have.
Blessings,
Congratulations Katie!
Congrats to Katie Sylvester. She will be traveling
to Chicago this week with the Maryville Intermediate School Wind
Ensemble. They will be competing in the Midwest Clinic-An International
Band and Orchestra Conference. Safe travel and prayers Katie, good work.

Invitation to Romans
Without the book of Romans, Christianity today would have
a very different look. The book of Romans provided the grist for many of our
major doctrines formulated by church formers and re-formers like Augustine,
Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Wesley.
In Romans we observe a very specific understanding of Jewish life in Paul’s
time, a view which, over the centuries, has been somewhat skewed. It would be
refreshing to study Paul’s letter to the Romans as if it were received in the
mail just this morning. What does this letter say to us today, not just to those
who have interpreted it over the centuries, but to us personally - people
wanting to meet Paul and his faith for the first time?
If you would like to encounter Paul as he plans to visit the church in Rome, a
church which he had never seen and with people he had never known, this study is
for you. Why would all these infamous theologians use Romans as a basis for
their understanding of God and God’s relationship with his people? Come and see
what God is saying to you through Paul’s introduction of Christian doctrine to
the early church in Rome.
This short 8 week course on the book of Romans, taught by Bob Ergenbright,
begins with an orientation and course sign-up on Sunday, January 13, at 6:00pm
in the Wesley Fellowship Classroom (Room 405). The class sessions will continue
on Sunday evenings through March 9. A cost of $15 will cover the course
materials.

With Much Appreciation
Dear Friends,
Words can not express how much I appreciate all your letters, cards,
phone calls, food and prayers you sent our way during Harry’s illness
and passing. It is truly a blessing to be a member of Broadway.
Frances Brooks and Family
Dear Friends,
I would like to thank everyone in the Broadway family for keeping me in
their thoughts and prayers and for the cards during the past few weeks.
I am successfully recovering from my surgery and have the worst behind
me. Broadway has always been a HUGE part of my life and I’m so lucky to
have you. I’m honored to call Broadway home.
Sincerely,
Keith McBride
A Note Concerning Tax Laws
December 31. Donors must deliver or mail (and
postmark) checks on or by this date in order to claim a charitable
contribution deduction for 2007. Checks that are placed in the church
offering on the first Sunday of 2008 will not qualify for a charitable
contribution deduction for 2007, even if the check is predated to 2007
or was actually written in 2007. However, checks that are written,
mailed, and postmarked in 2007 will be deductible in 2007 though they
are not received by the church until 2008.
