“The Seeds of Love”

Lent is a time of renewal, of experiencing new life. As spring approaches we will see new flowers and plants. We will see leaves return to the trees. There will be a time for planting so the harvest can be fulfilled. Seeds will transform into plants that can be beneficial for our very existence. Are you living in accordance with God’s sown plan? God wants us to grow in spirit and in His truth. He wants us to be intentional about what we do. After all, we are here to serve God.

God calls on us to love one another. The Parable of the Sower tells about how some seeds are not rooted properly and they are snatched away. Are you yielding a harvest for God, or are you being snatched away? We need God to transform us. Are you growing as a Christian, or are you falling away? It hurts to see those who are snatched away by outside forces, or hurt feelings by others in community. Come and ponder the Parable of the Sower.

                                                Blessings,

Golden Council Survey Continues

Forty-eight seniors have already participated in the Golden Council survey of members of Broadway 65+ years old. The suggestions made for senior ministries and the affirmation for the current ministries have been overwhelmingly positive. If you have not yet been contacted for your interview, be patient. Teams have until February 24 to complete their assignments. If, after that date, you have not been contacted, call the church office if you would like to be included in the survey.

Broadway Job Descriptions OnLine
What am I suppose to do in my position at the church?

At the Church Conference on December 2, the Charge Conference approved the updated Broadway Policy and Procedure Guidelines including the responsibilities of all the positions on both the Administrative Board and Council on Ministries. To access that information, CLICK HERE, or go to the church web site and, under “Home,” access the “Administrative Staff and Leaders” page. At the bottom of the page you will find an icon that will take you to the policies and procedures including forms to be used for building usage and wedding requests in addition to all job descriptions. If you do not have access to the internet, you may obtain a hard copy at the church office. If you want a copy of only your job description, contact Bob Ergenbright through the church office.

2004-2008 Guidelines, produced by the General Board of Discipleship, are available in the library on loan. They contain information about all the general areas of ministry in the United Methodist Church such as missions, stewardship, finance, children’s ministries, youth ministries, Christian education, and many more. After General Conference in April 2008, new guidelines will be published reflecting changes in ministry enacted at the Conference. We will make those available as soon as possible.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!   Thanks to you, we had a record breaking silent auction for the Wesley Woods campership fund this year! Due to your creativity and generosity, we had more items donated than ever before and we raised an outstanding $1250.00! Thank you for supporting us in our fundraising efforts.

Food Kits Due March 2
Sunday, March 2, is Mission Sunday at Broadway. Our church is collecting food kits for the local pantry funds. A kit costs about $15-20 to fill. You may bring a check, but better yet, you can purchase the food when you buy your own groceries, then bring it with you Sunday morning to church. We will be collecting the food and giving it a special blessing during the worship services that morning. Come and be a part of a very worthwhile mission!

A Food Kit contains:
1 box powdered milk 3 6oz. cans tuna
1 2-lb. bag dry beans
1 2-lb. bag rice
2 14.5-oz. cans tomatoes
1 canned ham or Spam

Oodles Of Thanks!!!

What a great night we had at the spaghetti supper! Counting all the workers we served almost 200 plates of noodles. Much appreciation goes to the kitchen crew and Vanda Porter. Many complements have gone to the cooks. Congratulations also goes to our youth group. I think the only drinks or pasta which was spilled was theirs and not on any of our guests! The compliments have come often about what a courteous and polite group we have and I will have to agree. It was a fun night. Thanks for your support of our youth.

JUBILATION 2008  JUBILATION, a Senior Adult Retreat at Meadow View Convention Center in Kingsport, TN, on April 6-8, focuses this year on the theme, “I Love to Tell the Story.” In keeping with the idea of telling one’s story, Charles Maynard, Director of Development for Holston Conference Camping and Leisure Ministries, will lead a workshop emphasizing how to enjoy learning more about the stories that have occurred in other families that may have been part of your own family background.

As we look at our own faith journey, Dr. William Carter, author of Peanut Butter Theology, and Roger Redding, Director of Holston Conference Foundation, will discuss how the advantage of aging and the preparation of our lives for retirement fit closely. They will help participants discover ways to make some of the grand decisions that will assist them in having a better retirement experience.

For more information about JUBILATION, stop by the church office for a brochure, including the registration form. And remember, you do not have to drive. The Broadway bus will leave the church parking lot at 1:30 p.m. on April 6. Reserve your seat on the bus by calling the church office before April 2.

For more information, visit jubilation.holston.org on the internet.
