Risking Talents
The Scriptures tell us that God is willing to give us talents to use for His kingdom and work. If we are given talents and do not use them, they can be taken away. Do you have talents that have been given to you by God that you are not using to their fullest intention? Talents need to be developed and used for God’s glory. A talent is often a spiritual gift that God will multiply to help us help others.

Sunday we will look at the talents that have been granted by God. Do we have the courage and faith to risk these talents? Are we doing our part to build up the kingdom of God, or are we still waiting for God to build us up? God cares about you, but God is looking for willing workers who are faithful and loyal to follow His will and way. Where do you fit? Are you working for God, or still waiting for God to work for you? See you in church.

                                               In Christ,

Jubilation Promises Variety
The Holston Conference Older Adult Retreat Jubilation is fast approaching. Two of the workshops offered are a Bible Study entitled “More Provocative Parables,” led by Bishop Looney, a native Holstonian, and “Cleaning Out Your Attic: Learning to Tell Your Family Stories,” a humorous, sobering look at storyteller from a master “liar,” Rev. Charles Maynard. In addition, James Rogers, featured songwriter and entertainer at Dollywood, provides a show on Sunday night that Dolly Parton describes as “The best one-man show in America.”

You don’t want to miss Jubilation this year March 18-20 at MorningView Resort in Kingsport, TN. If you have not yet registered, there are brochures and registration forms available in the church office. To find out more, go to http://jubilation.holston.org where you will find a brochure and other great information.

Broadway Represented Well At District Mission Journeys  BUMC had a dynamic display among all the churches represented at the District “Sharing Our Mission Journeys” program this past Sunday at Faiview UMC. We enjoyed talking about our own missions with other churches, and we came away with new ideas. We were amazed at the mission trips and programs churches smaller than Broadway are able to support. It gave us renewed spirit that we all are working to spread The Good News of Jesus Christ wherever we can.

Bishop Swanson called on us to continue to give more of ourselves, not just our money; Jesus wants us, not just what our pockets hold.

Our Mission display is set up in the narthex. Take a look at all you do as a member of BUMC. Have we left something off? Do you have a new idea? E-mail the church of give us a call: Barbara Tiller (981-9006) or Nan Taylor (984-8585).

By the WAY Youth News

30 Hours to do what most of the
world does every day!!!
February 23-24th
Are you up to the challenge? Starting Friday at 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday there will be NO food, only water!!!

Our goal this year is to raise awareness and money for the Holston Sudan Action Team. The event will be an overnight retreat at the church, during which we will spend time in prayer and reflection. We will have some special guest speakers to tell us about life in Sudan, and we will do a surprise event.

It’s tough, but we have a good time anyway. Make plans to come join in; it is a retreat like no other!!! We have raised around $350.00 so far. What else can we do??

March 4, 1:30-4:30
Hey, Buddy, Can You Spare a D.Y.M.E.?
Maryville District Youth Ministry Event!!

On March 4 we will be at the Sycamore Tree UMC to hear what impact Resurrection has had on you guys. (Anybody want to share??). In May we will meet for the district elections for CCYM. (I know some of you are interested.) Fun times: come see your buddies from the district.

Invitation to the Old Testament Continues with BONDAGE  This Sunday evening at 6:00pm in the library, the short term Disciple Bible study of the Old Testament will focus on the Moses saga and liberation theology. Anyone wishing to join the group may come and participate this Sunday. Thus far, the study has included an overview of the development of the Old Testament and the covenant relationships with Abraham and his immediate family. The group is lively and the information challenging. Come and join us.

Chancel Choir Sings About God’s Omnipresence  Marie Pooler’s poignant, descriptive depiction of verses 9-10 of Psalm 139 make us aware of God’s continual presence in our lives. God’s guidance helps us find our way throughout our life. Even in the dark times of our lives, God comforts us and guides us through His grace and mercy. When we search for the many talents and gifts He provides us, He helps us discern His will and enables us, not only to find our talents, but to also use them for His kingdom on earth.

Chancel Choir Joins College-Community Choir  The Chancel Choir will join with the alumni choir at Maryville College for a farewell concert in Wilson Chapel in May. During the next few months, the choir will sing selections included on that concert. The music has been arranged in each service of worship to support the theme of Rev. Moore’s sermon and scripture text. More information will follow concerning the May concert.

Anyone wishing to join the choir and participate in this tribute to the musical heritage of Maryville College and its impact on our community is invited to rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm in the Choir room on the fourth elevator level. The May concert will be the last event in Wilson Chapel before it is torn down to begin construction of the new College-Community Fine Arts Center jointly supported by Maryville College and the cities of Alcoa and Maryville.
