“God
Is Looking For You”
How do you feel about the statement, “God is searching
for you?” God cares about His creation and He wants a relationship with
those who will open their heart and soul to Him. In Lent we are to
confront our sinful nature. All of us are sinners who have fallen short
of God’s glory. When we realize that God wants to restore us, then we
are ready for redemption. Our brokenness can be made whole by the Grace
of God. He brings us back to the person that He created us to be.
Free will and free choice can lead us down some interesting paths. When
we follow our passion and desire, rather than God’s will, we become
lost. God finds us worthy of redemption. God is seeking you through
daily experiences, your needs, and through our relationships. Come and
feel the presence of God. Come and enter Lent realizing God is looking
for you.
In Christ,

canned meats, macaroni and cheese, cereal, paper products, peanut butter
and baby food. There is also a place on the box in the narthex to leave
donations for the Helping Hand Fund.

Choir Sings Afro-American Spiritual
In the parlance of choral directors,
Sunday’s anthem is an old chestnut, one that is tried and true and
speaks to all people. ”Soon-ah Will Be Done” mixes the hopeful text
stating that when we are through with this life of earth we will “go
home to live with God” with an infectious rhythmic arrangement by
William L. Dawson. This is a fitting beginning to Lent with its theme of
hopeful waiting and self-searching.
Mr. Dawson was one of many Afro-American composers to arrange native
songs of the Deep South into moving choral anthems. He organized the
School of Music at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, and for twenty-five
years conducted the one hundred voice Tuskegee Choir. In 1932-33, this
choir was a main attraction at the grand opening of the Radio City Music
Hall in New York.
Spiritual Enrichment Experience Is Planned
This year’s Holston Conference United
Methodist Women’s 2207 Spiritual Enrichment Experience will be Saturday
and Sunday, May 19-20 at Lake Junaluska. This year there will be only
one event. Registration forms are on the bulletin board to the left of
the doors to the W. R. Allen Hall. All registrations must be in by April
15.
With Much Appreciation
Dear Friends,
The past three months have given me a greater insight into the love and
care shown by the members of Broadway as I was the recipient of your
Christian outreach. Words are not adequate to thank you for all the
prayers, cards, calls, food, books and visits you "showered" me with.
Your care made my days go faster and I am most grateful to each of you.
Bob and I are blessed to be a part of this Christian Fellowship.
Thank you,
Elizabeth Mize
Dear Friends,
I want to thank you for all your thoughts, calls, cards and visits
during my recent illness. They were really appreciated. I am now
convalescing at home. I especially want to thank Dan, our minister, for
his many visits and words of encouragement.

Here’s Your Chance

Chancel Choir Joins College-Community Choir The
Chancel Choir will join with the alumni choir at Maryville College for a
farewell concert in Wilson Chapel in May. During the next few months,
the choir will sing selections included on that concert. The music has
been arranged in each service of worship to support the theme of Rev.
Moore’s sermon and scripture text. More information will follow
concerning the May concert.
Anyone wishing to join the choir and participate in this tribute to the
musical heritage of Maryville College and its impact on our community is
invited to rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm in the Choir room
on the fourth elevator level. The May concert will be the last event in
Wilson Chapel before it is torn down to begin construction of the new
College-Community Fine Arts Center jointly supported by Maryville
College and the cities of Alcoa and Maryville.
JUBILATION Hits All-Time High Registration
JUBILATION, the Holston Conference Older Adult Retreat in
Kingsport on March 18-20, for the first time has topped 300
participants. Registrations will still be accepted, but the official
deadline has passed. The cost is $10 more for registrations between now
and the event.
Those who have signed up to ride the bus to Kingsport are reminded that
they are limited to one suitcase and one carry-on due to the space
limitations in the bus. The bus is full with people from Broadway (9),
First-Maryville (1), Green Meadow (2), Fairview (2), and Church Street
(7). On March 18, Mr. Ergenbright will begin loading the bus in the BUMC
parking lot at 1:30pm with a scheduled departure of 2:00pm. The bus will
then go to Asbury Place in Maryville and then to Church Street UMC in
Knoxville. Asbury residents should be in the lobby of the retirement
center at 2:00pm.
