“Love
Is The Answer”
Valentine’s Day is February 14 and the Boy Scouts of
America will be recognized at our worship service on February 11. John
15:9-13 will be the scripture passage that will feed us for the day.
Love is the theme and the writer is telling us if we “keep my Father’s
commandments” we will abide in his love. The Boy Scouts have rules to
follow to make them better persons and scouts. As Christians we have
been given commandments by Jesus to make us better persons and servants.
Do you know the rules? Are you a loving disciple?
Sunday we will ponder love. Love is a force that we sometimes lose and
get disconnected from. God’s love is forever available to us, but we
lose sight, sense, and feeling often enough. Come and be with us Sunday
as we ponder love. Love is the answer for our unfulfilled lives. Come
and receive a blessing.
In Christ,

Confirmation Class To Begin
This year’s Confirmation Class will begin on Sunday,
February 25, at 4:00 p.m. for one hour, in the pastor’s study and is
open to all sixth graders who haven’t been through the class. For more
information, contact Dan Moore, 982-6192.
Scout Orchestra Plays Sunday
This Sunday, an orchestra made up of Boy Scouts and some
of their leaders will play the hymn “Lord of the Dance” as an offertory.
The boys have worked for several weeks practicing and learning this
work. It is always a joy to work with these young men as they learn
about service to their community and to the church.

Sunday’s Anthem
This Sunday, the Chancel Choir will sing Eugene Butler’s
Sing to the Lord a Marvelous Song. Featuring a quirky rhythm, called the
American meter, Mr. Butler has created a joyous praise anthem dwelling
on the word “marvelous.” Tucked into the fabric of the frenetic rhythm
is a short interlude based on Joel 2:13, “Rend your hearts and not your
garments....”
Eugene Butler is a native of Durant, Oklahoma. His undergraduate degree
was earned at Oklahoma University. His masters degree in Sacred Music is
from Union Theological Seminary in New York and his Doctor of Musical
Arts in Composition was earned from the University of Missouri in Kansas
City. He has published over 1000 compositions with some 50 different
publishers. According to Hope Publishing Company, Sunday’s anthem
currently is their most popular composition and ranks eleventh on their
all-time selling list.
It’s Time To Think About Softball
It won’t be long before softball will start for this
season. Once again Broadway will be sponsoring a men’s team. Watch the
Messenger for more details.
Old Testament Study Continues
The Invitation to the Old Testament study, a short term Disciple-based
curriculum, will continue this Sunday at 6:00pm in the Wesley Fellowship
Classroom. There are eleven participants in the class and there is room
for more to join. If you would like to be part of this group, contact
the office so you may get a participant’s book and be ready for Sunday’s
class.
Youth To Participate In 30 Hour Famine
The youth are going to do what most of the world does
every day for 30 hours!! They are going to go hungry. Starting Friday,
February 23, at 1:00 they will go without food until 7:00 p.m. on
Saturday, February 24. They will be allowed water during this time.
The event will be an overnight retreat at the church, during which they
will spend time in prayer and reflection besides having some special
guest speakers telling them about life in Sudan. Money raised will go
towards the Holston Sudan Action Team. To date they have raised $350.00
for this project.
Maryville District To Sponsor Sharing Our Missionary Journeys
On Sunday, February 18, from 3:00 - 5:00
p.m. people of the Maryville District will join together at Fairview UMC
sharing their stories of their missionary journeys. At 4:00 p.m. Bishop
James E. Swanson, Sr. will inspire us in worship and music by the
Faithful Men and the Hallelujah Kids. We will also hear mission reports
from our District Hispanic Ministry and from Camp Wesley Woods and the
Hope Center in Latvia. In addition we will preview the upcoming
Conference mission emphasis to Brazil.
