“What About God?”
There are many people today who have a hard time understanding the relationship between Jesus and God. The disciples had this difficulty as well. Philip asks Jesus how they can see God and be satisfied? Jesus basically says look at me. Have you experienced God through Jesus Christ? The scriptures of John 14:8-14 helps us with this. In Jesus we see the character of God. In Jesus we see the purpose of God. In Jesus we see the method of God.

What do others see in you? If God and Jesus are one, what have we learned from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? Jesus came to redeem our sinfulness and give us life. Life that is full of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. What about God? God loves you with a grace that changes us for the better. Come and learn more about Jesus. Come and receive a blessing.

                                                In Christ,

CAN Sunday Is This Week
As part of the ongoing fight against hunger in Blount County, this Sunday, February 3, will be CAN Sunday. This is the time each month when we bring non-perishable items to Sunday school and worship to share with our neighbors in the area who are less fortunate. Items needed include peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, flour, corn meal, sugar, shortening, dried beans, canned meat and tuna, macaroni and cheese, and paper products. There is also a place to put donations for the Helping Hand Fund in the narthex. Please be generous.

Circles To Meet
Thursday, February 7, 10:00 a.m.
Circle 2 Hostess - Maxine Redwine
Program - Dora Francis
Fellowship Circle Hostess - Mary Jane Ribble
Program - Sarah Wimmer

WFS: Ash Wednesday Service    Wednesday, February 6, is Ash Wednesday, a time for repentance and the beginning of Lent. Following the Wednesday Fellowship Supper at 6:00pm, we will gather in the sanctuary for the traditional Imposition of the Ashes. At Broadway, the ashes are from the burnt palm leaves of the Palm Sunday service in 2007.

Ashes signifying repentance may be found both in the Old and New Testaments, in Job 42:3-6, Jonah 3:6, Luke 10:13, and Matthew 11:21. The ash cross placed on the forehead is an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins. While the ashes are imposed, the pastor cites Genesis 3:19, “Remember that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return.”

The Chancel Choir will sing Carl Nygard’s anthem, Psalm 86, using verses 6-7, “Hear my prayer when I cry from the lowly place; in your mercy, Lord, let me stay; hear my voice, O Lord, when I pray.”

Menu: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, peas, salad and apple cobbler. Cost: $6.00 - adult, $4.00 - children, $18 - family. Reservations must be in by 10:00 on Tuesday.

Upper Room Sponsors Silent Auction
The Upper Room class will sponsor a silent auction to benefit the campership fund at Camp Wesley Woods, February 16-17. Items will be on display and bidding will begin at the Youth Spaghetti Supper on February 16. Bidding will end at 9:30 on February 17 so that the names of the highest bidders may be announced at the 10:30 service. Please be prepared to pay for your item after the 10:30 service. We would like to ask individuals, Sunday school classes or other groups to please contribute items or services to be auctioned off for this worthy cause. Thanks to your generosity in our previous auctions, many children who could not afford to attend camp have been able to spend a week in the great outdoors learning about God and making friends. If you have any questions, please call Barbara Tiller at 981-9006 or Nikki Fordham at 977-4185.

May I Take Your Order?

Spaghetti Supper - Saturday, February 16
Saturday, February 16, the Broadway youth will be here to serve you. Come enjoy an evening of fellowship and pasta. Monies raised from this event will go to support the Youth Service Fund and World Vision Missions. Tickets are available from the youth or at the door.

Youth and parents, be on the lookout for a sign-up sheet. We will need everyone’s help to make this a success.

“Souper Bowl Sunday”

This will be one of the easiest fund-raisers ever! Join us this Sunday, February 3, as our youth participate in the nationwide Souper Bowl Sunday. Youth groups across the country will be collecting donations for food pantries and other local missions in their communities. Broadway’s “Youth in the Way” will also be collecting. Our monies will go to the Food Connection and our Helping Hand Fund.

Now the easy part! All you have to do is come to church. The youth will donate $1.00 for everyone that is in church. Wasn’t that easy - no fumbling for change - no need to get a quarter back, just be a receiver of a gift. Now, if you would like to go for extra yardage, the youth will be available to collect any donations you would like to make. Help us help our community. We can all be winners.

Caleb Kirik Earns Eagle Scout
Some of you may remember the Kirik family who attended Broadway UMC until 2005 when a job change relocated them to north Alabama near Huntsville.

Their son, Caleb, began scouting while the family lived here in Maryville. When the family relocated, Caleb continued in scouting joining Troop 83 in Madison, Alabama.

Caleb received his Eagle Scout Rank December 9, 2007. Photos and a local (Alabama) newspaper article are on the bulletin board outside the W. R. Allen Hall
