“Are
You Living?”
“Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly.” Are
you spiritually alive? Christians today are more free to share their
opinions rather than their faith. God calls on us to serve rather than
be served. Jesus has already given us the forgiving and saving power of
God. What more do we need? Sunday we will praise God with waving palm
branches and singing hosannas. We will ponder whether we are superficial
or convicted Christians. We will rejoice in what God has done through
Jesus.
We will move from triumph to the tragedy of Good Friday. Jesus will be
rejected and yet He will overcome sin and death and sacrifice Himself
for our sins. We will prepare ourselves for Holy Week and the joy of
Easter victory. Come and receive a blessing. Come and feel the presence
of God.
Blessings,

We Need Your Help
The Mid-Adult Think Tank of the Holston Conference is asking all adults
born between 1945 and 1975 to go on-line and take a survey which will be
used by the Conference to better discern how to be in ministry with and
for persons in this age group. The survey is largely based on a survey
which was prepared by the General Church. To find the survey,
or go to

Phone Cards Available
We have a number of prepaid $30 BellSouth phone
cards available in the church office. If you would like one, stop by and
pick it up. They are free.
How Many Eggs Can You Find?
The church wide Easter Egg Hunt will be held on
Saturday, March 22. We will meet at the church at 11:00 a.m. and walk to
the Greenbelt behind the Habitat for Humanity store off of Church St.
After the Easter Egg Hunt, we will go to the church for lunch. Hot dogs,
drinks and all the fix-ins will be furnished. Please bring something to
go with it such as chips or cookies. Also, please bring plastic eggs
this Sunday, March 16. There will be collection buckets at the doors.
Boiled eggs for dying will be furnished and can be dyed after lunch
during our craft time. Everyone in the church is invited. If you are
bringing extra guests (i.e. visiting grandchildren, etc.), please let
Judy or Charlie know, so we can be sure to have enough food.
Last Chance To Order Lilies
This
Sunday will be your last chance to order lilies to be placed in the
sanctuary on Easter Sunday, March 23, in honor or in memory of a loved
one. Order forms will be in the bulletins this Sunday or you may call
the church office, 982-6192. Orders need to be in by Monday, March 24.
Lilies will cost $10 this year.
Hike To Whiteoak Sinks
Again
this year, the United Methodist Men will offer a hike to Whiteoak Sinks.
The date is Saturday, April 12. We’ll meet at the church at 8:30 for
donuts and coffee. After a very brief business meeting for UMM members,
we’ll car pool to the Smokies for our hike. Bob Hayes will lead a group
on the same 4-mile hike we did last year. Kevin Teffeteller will lead
another group on a shorter and easier hike that also leads to the sinks.
This is open to all interested people. You don’t have to pre-register;
just show up at the church. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. For more
information, call Bob at 984-5149.
We’re Going To Concord
Our
March Odyssey Trip will be Thursday, March 27, when we travel to Concord
to have lunch at the Lakeside Tavern. We will leave the church at 12:00

the menu. We will collect money for gas on the way back. This trip will
just be lunch and return to the church. Call the church office,

Maundy Thursday Service
On Maundy Thursday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m., the
Chancel Choir and Broadway Players will present “Behold the Lamb of God”
compiled by Griffith Jones and Hazel McRae. This Lenten choral service
features music from Handel’s MESSIAH, Dubois’ THE SEVEN LAST WORDS,
Gounod’s GALLIA, Mendelssohn’s CHRISTUS, and Stainer’s THE CRUCIFIXION.
In addition, the voices of a narrator, Jesus, the Centurion, Pilate,
Simon the Cyrenian, the two thieves, and a voice reflecting every
Christian’s response to the crucifixion will lead us through the events
of the Passion of Christ. The evening concludes with the Sacrament of
the Last Supper.
This is one of the most stirring moments of Holy Week. You and your
family will want to make a special effort to experience the pain, awe,
expectation, and hope of Christ’s Passion. Jesus entered Jerusalem
triumphantly amidst the waving of palm branches and shouts of HOSANNA
only to be derided and shamed by crucifixion and finally exalted and
praised with shouts of ALLELUIA at his resurrection on Easter Sunday
morning. “Behold the Lamb of God” prepares us for the glorious
experience of Easter as Jesus first had to feel the pain of suffering
and death to bring us each the gift of eternal life through His own
death and resurrection.
Good Friday Service
The annual Good Friday service sponsored by the
Blount County Ecumenical Action Council will begin at Broadway UMC at
12:00 noon on Friday, March 21. It will end at 1:00 at St. Paul AME Zion
on West Broadway. Join us as we contemplate The Seven Last Words of
Jesus.
Easter Sunrise Service -
7:15 Easter Morning
Early on the first Easter the women went to the tomb to prepare Jesus’
body for burial. They were greeted by the empty tomb and a risen Christ.
Their day and our lives were changed forever by that first Easter
Sunday. Early on Easter morning this year we will continue the
celebration of our risen Christ. The youth will be hosting a sunrise
service in the church parking lot at 7:15 a.m. Dress warmly and let’s
greet this new day. God is still changing lives.

Hey, all you kiddos out there! We have a lot of neat stuff coming up; so
have your parents jot these down on the calendar!
Palm Sunday - March 16
The children will bring the palm branches to the alter in both
services so all kiddos will have the chance to participate. During the

the church and bring them forward during the second praise song. For the
second service children and parents will gather in the Narthex and the
palms will be carried in at the start of the service.

Choir will sing for both worship services.

Please bring a side dish to share. After lunch we will have time for
activities and maybe the bunny hop, hop, hop.
