“Are
You a Courageous Example?” It has been said that
Christians today do not have the courage to stand up against evil and
unrighteousness. When we do not communicate with God through prayer and
worship, we lose our courage. A Christian life is one of service and
living by the guidance of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We would still
rather be served than risk our faith. Christians must face a death that
is very uncomfortable and challenging. Jesus asks us to die to self and
give Him our obedience and service. Christians are reluctant to commit.
Are you a good example of Christian faith? Are you living by the
teachings of Jesus? Is your life a shining example of faith, hope, and
love that Jesus spoke of? Do you have the courage to live like Jesus,
who even gave His physical life for the cause of God? Come and be
strengthened. Come and be renewed.
In Christ,

One Great Hour of Sharing -
Offering To Be Taken This Week This Sunday, March
18, at both services, we will collect the One Great Hour of Sharing
Offering. The money received from this offering will be used by UMCOR to
help with emergency relief throughout the U.S. and around the world.
They also help with other programs world wide. Please be generous.

March 23. We will be preparing the plates on Saturday morning.

Go Take A Hike!
The United Methodist Men are sponsoring a church-wide
hike into Whiteoak Sinks on Saturday, April 21. We’ll meet at the church
at 8:30 and carpool to the Smokies. Bob Hayes will be leading this hike
which takes us 2 miles up the Schoolhouse Gap trail, then down into
Whiteoak Sinks where we’ll see a couple of caves, a gravesite, beautiful
wildflowers, and a unique waterfall which disappears into a cave behind
it. We’ll climb out of Whiteoak Sinks and intersect the Schoolhouse Gap
trail a mile from our cars. The 4-mile hike requires some climbing. Be
sure to wear comfortable shoes. Some of us plan to eat at the Riverstone
Restaurant in Townsend after the hike. You may prefer to make other
arrangements.
Please e-mail Bob Hayes, rajah819@aol.com, if you want to go on the hike
and also indicate if you’d like to eat at the Riverstone so we can give
the restaurant some idea of how many to expect. Join us for a good time.

Jubilation Bus Schedule
and Information
Please note the following Bus schedule for those riding the bus to
Kingsport for JUBILATION. Because of the 5:30pm sit-down dinner, a new
feature in this year’s retreat, we need to board the bus sooner than we
had originally planned.
1:00pm
Broadway UMC Parking lot
1:10pm Depart Broadway UMC
1:15pm Asbury Place Retirement Center portico
1:25pm Depart Asbury Place
2:00pm Church Street UMC Cumberland Street Parking Lot
2:10pm Depart Church Street UMC
4:15pm Arrive at MeadowView Resort Center in Kingsport
Please
note that riders may take one suitcase and one carry-on due to limited
luggage storage space in the rear of the bus. In addition, please bring
$5.00 to cover the cost of gas for the trip. It would be good to be
early for your designated loading time since the schedule will be tight.
Faithbooking, Telling
Your Faith Story
Faith books are a collection of pictures and stories that
demonstrate how alive and active God is in our past, present and future.
This will be an introductory class and will meet once weekly for six
weeks. You don’t have to be a “scrapbooker” to begin faithbooking. You
may decide not to put any pictures on the page at all, dedicating more
space to writing your story. For more information, contact Lori Wade.
Classes will begin on Wednesday evening, March 21, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
in the Upper Room classroom. Cost will be $30.00
Fashion Show Deadline
In order to plan for food and seating arrangements for
the Fashion Show, we would like to have any unsold tickets, along with
funds from ticket sales, turned into the church office by Thursday
morning, March 15th. The United Methodist Women Executive Committee will
meet at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, and it will be helpful to know the exact
number sold. We want to complete our plans this week, because several of
us are attending Jubilation next week. Ticket sales have gone well, and
we appreciate all those who are working hard to make the fashion show a
success for our mission projects. We look forward to a fun time with
Judy Gardner on March 24 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. R. Allen Hall.

Choir Sings Swedish Folk Hymn
Sunday morning, the chancel choir will sing You Are Holy
by Per Harling. Mr. Harling is a Swedish Lutheran Pastor and musician
who has contributed many hymns and praise songs to the current worship
literature. This anthem setting of his hymn, focusing on God’s
ever-present blessings for God’s children, features one of the
signatures of his music, Latin rhythms and a refined sense of melody.
During Children’s Choir Camp this summer, they will learn another of Mr.
Harling’s hymns, For Livets Skull (For Sake of Life), written in Brazil
with a Latin flair.
Epworth Bells Ring Spiritual
The Epworth Bells join with Gail Hafner at the organ as
they ring the popular spiritual, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, arranged by
Janet Linker and Jane McFadden. The selection features bells, handchimes,
and organ and a swinging good time praising God. This is the kind of
music that would have made King David dance before the Ark of the
Covenant as it entered the Jerusalem gates.
