“Give Me The Reward - Please!?”

There is a definite attitude in human nature that says, “What am I going to get out of this?” As we live life we seek fulfillment and meaning. We wonder what benefits and rewards will come our way? Here in Matthew we see the mother of James and John asking if her sons will be given a place of honor next to Jesus when the Kingdom of God comes? In Mark the brothers themselves ask for this honor. It is an honor Jesus says can only “be prepared by the Father.”

As a Christian we want to feel we will receive an award for our discipleship. Jesus calls us to servitude and sacrifice. Sunday we will look at what we need to be doing as Christians. Are we serving or expecting to be served? Jesus gave His life as a ransom for our souls. Do you understand and

appreciate what He has done on your behalf? Come and hear the call to discipleship. (Matthew 20:20-28)

                                               In Christ,

Choir Sings French Classic by Fauré
Sunday morning, the chancel choir will sing Cantique de Jean Racine by the French composer, Gabriel Fauré. The Cantique is a setting of words by the 17th century dramatist and poet Jean Racine. It was Fauré’s first significant composition, written in 1865 while he was in his final year at the École Niedermeyer, the ‘École de musique religieuse et classique’. He submitted the piece for the composition prize, and won, though it was not published until eleven years later. Fauré went on to write a good deal of religious music – most notably the Requiem, written in 1888.

Wesley Ringers Ring Hymn Favorite
This Sunday, the Wesley Ringers will play John Dykes familiar hymn, Holy, Holy, Holy, based on the tune Nicaea arranged for three octaves of handbells for five players by arranger Douglas Wagner.

With Much Appreciation
Wendell and I want to thank all of our friends at Broadway for your thoughtfulness, good wishes, and especially your prayers during Wendell’s ordeal in the hospital and in transitional care. He is at home now; but we still need and will appreciate your prayers.

Go Take A Hike!
The United Methodist Men are sponsoring a church-wide hike into Whiteoak Sinks on Saturday, April 21. We’ll meet at the church at 8:30 and carpool to the Smokies. Bob Hayes will be leading this hike which takes us 2 miles up the Schoolhouse Gap trail, then down into Whiteoak Sinks where we’ll see a couple of caves, a gravesite, beautiful wildflowers, and a unique waterfall which disappears into a cave behind it. We’ll climb out of Whiteoak Sinks and intersect the Schoolhouse Gap trail a mile from our cars. The 4-mile hike requires some climbing. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Some of us plan to eat at the Riverstone Restaurant in Townsend after the hike. You may prefer to make other arrangements.

Please e-mail Bob Hayes, rajah819@aol.com, if you want to go on the hike and also indicate if you’d like to eat at the Riverstone so we can give the restaurant some idea of how many to expect. Join us for a good time.
