“In Gear?”
When you put a car in neutral it can be pushed or pulled rather easily. It’s engine does not create the energy to move it. When Jesus entered Jerusalem for the last week of his life there were three kinds of people. Those who had faith in Jesus and His mission. Those who were against Him, and wanted Him removed. Those who just observed and tried not to take a stand, but were swayed by public opinion. What group would you have been in?

The first group shouted praises and said, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” The second group said, “Crucify Him. Give us Barabbas.” The third group remained silent, and hoped to be unbothered by the situation. Palm Sunday is a time to take a stand. Do you realize what Jesus has done for you? Don’t remain neutral. Get yourself in gear, when it comes to your response to Jesus. We hope to see you Sunday as we start Holy Week together.

                                               In Christ,

THE LIVING LAST SUPPER   Presented Maundy Thursday, April 5, at 7:00pm in the sanctuary, the Chancel Choir will join with the Primed for Time actors and instrumentalist as they present a stirring musical drama focused on the moment that Jesus, while participating in a Seder meal during the feast of the Passover, proclaims that one of those present will betray him. The drama takes place as each Disciple reacts to the possibility that he may be the one who will betray the Master, but only one disciple knows for sure the identity of the true betrayer. The choir supports the drama with songs describing the actions of the disciples as they participate in a Seder meal which quickly develops into the moment that Jesus established the sacrament of Holy Communion. The music also augments the disciples’ monologues and portrays pivotal events in the Biblical story not covered by the drama.

Ruth Elaine Schram, in setting this poignant drama, says, “When God called these twelve men to be His disciples and apostles and to establish the New Testament Church, He chose flawed individuals, people just like you and me, men who were not saints or even finished products, but works in progress; men whose qualities needed to be honed, molded and channeled in positive ways.” In keeping with Ms. Schram’s intention, this service is a mixture of the Biblical narrative and our modern discernment of Jesus’ ministry and His call.

During the evening, in addition to the drama, the congregation will have the opportunity to partake of the elements of Holy Communion in a unique setting. Everyone is invited to participate.

Palm Sunday Anthem
This Sunday, the Chancel Choir will sing Handel’s “Hallelujah, Amen” from his oratorio JUDAS MACCABAEUS. This chorus in the larger work is sung as the Hasmonians return from a victorious encounter with the Roman protectorate which ruled Palestine at the time. They thought that Judas Maccabaeus was the great messiah that Isaiah had foretold. Of course they later found this to be false, but this great chorus is used today to usher the true Messiah into the great city of Jerusalem, the city of Zion, the city on the hill, where he might establish his kingdom on earth and overthrow Roman tyranny- so the Jerusalem Jews believed. Nevertheless, we now know the rest of the story.

The Children’s Choir Sings and Rings
The Children’s Choir will sing and ring handbells in the Vicki Wright arrangement of Melinda Hoiland’s energetic “Hosanna! Hosanna!” The anthem portrays the traditional words of Palm Sunday as the children shout “Hosanna to our King! Open wide the gates of Jerusalem! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Let all the people sing!”
