“Stick
Your Neck Out”
Ephesians 6:10-18 appeals for strength in spiritual
battle. We are challenged to put on the armor of God. This armor
protects us from the evil that tries to capture and manipulate us. As
Christians we need to stick our necks out rather than going into a
protective shell. Like a turtle we are protected by God’s armor, but we
must venture beyond the protective shell and risk our faith.
Sunday we will listen to our seniors and rejoice with them in how they
have grown in faith and academic achievement. Come and be blessed. Come
and learn.
In Christ,

The Journey Continues
A celebration for our graduating seniors.
We have held both of these soon to be graduates in our arms for the last
18 years, loving them and showing them the wonders of Christ. We have
done well. This Sunday we will celebrate a major milestone in the lives
of Emily Bruce and Abram Miller. The next steps will be theirs. They
will proceed knowing that Christ is with them and that we are
surrounding them in prayers. We have taught them well. If you have had
any time with them, you know the character of these two. They have grown
strong in their faith and stature as son and daughter of the King. We
are thankful for the blessings they have given us and wish them peace
and grace on their next steps.
On Sunday at both services we will celebrate their accomplishments and
hear from them about their faith. Please come and continue the support
that we promised at their baptisms.
Emily will be going to college at Aquinas in Nashville, looking towards
a career in education. Alcoa’s graduation in on May 18, at 7:00 p.m., at
the school.
Abram will attend Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina. He will be
using his talents in swimming to be on the first swim team at the
school. Maryville’s graduation is on May 14, 7:30 p.m. at the Knoxville
Civic Coliseum.
Continue to pray for them and their families during this exiting time in
their lives.
Peace, Charlie Wimmer
Helping Hands Needs Your Help
Due to high heating bills received in March for February,
our Helping Hand fund is almost depleted. We are still receiving a large
number of calls for help. If you are able to help us replenish our fund,
we would greatly appreciate it. We help people every six months with
utility bills and medication. Occasionally we will help someone with a
motel room for one night. Checks can be made out to BUMC and mark them
Helping Hand. Thank you for your help.

Calling all Crafters!!!!

at 10:00 AM for a day of crafting. Items made will be given to the UMW

Summer Trip to Amish Country and Lancaster Play Plan
to enjoy a day in the Amish country in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and see a
play at the Millennium Theatre in Ronks.
The trip is planned for Tuesday, June 26, through Thursday, June 28. The group
will spend the morning and early afternoon at the Kitchen Kettle, an Amish
historical area in Intercourse, PA, where shopping abounds and museums of Amish
life thrive. There is a quilting museum across from the visitors’ center and
plenty of food sampling centers to make quite a lunch. One could even take a
buggy ride with an Amish family. In the afternoon, we will go to the Sight and
Sound Theatre to see “In the Beginning,” a musical play about God’s creation of
the world. Following the show, the group will eat a sumptuous feast at the
Bird-in-Hand Restaurant.

Call For Reekyla Estonia
Work-Team Volunteers Are you being called to work
July 19-31 with the Reekyla Methodist Congregation restoring their
church building? The restoration will be completed this summer with
repairs to the steeple and the roof. Some will provide ground support or
otherwise will be working at ground or floor level. You will be
energized by daylight from wake-up to bedtime, mild temperatures, eating
home cooked Estonian meals and tea breaks 5 times a day – all while
being with persons with evocative personal stories living their
Christian faith. For 6 years God has called forth people and means for
the Reekyla restoration. Do you feel called? Explore it by speaking with
Ralph Bradley, team leader, or Rev. Moore.
The deadline for joining the team is June 11 giving team leaders time to
order non-refundable airfare. Passports expiring 7/09 or later are
required. The work-team is a mission of Broadway UMC and embraced by the
Administrative Board at its April meeting.

Children Sing Mother’s Day
The children will join with the Chancel Choir as they
sing a special tribute to mothers and their influence on our spiritual
lives. They will also sing an anthem during the offering about Mother
Mary and the infant Jesus related to our mothers and their children
today. It will be a special celebration in song for Mother’s Day.
Broadway Presents Coming May 20
On Sunday, May 20, at 3:00pm, BROADWAY PRESENTS features
all our musical organizations as they bring this spring season to a
close. The Chancel Choir will sing some of the familiar anthems heard
during worship this year while the children’s choir will sing a medley
of Psalm-related songs with recitations of many Psalm passages they have
learned. The handbells will ring some old, some new, some borrowed and
some “Blues” with a little twist thrown in. This will be good fun for
the entire family. Come and enjoy the sounds of worship and God’s new
creation.
Children’s Choir Camp Sings Scandinavian Songs
This summer, June 20-22, children’s choir camp will focus
on the Christian musical heritage of Scandinavia as they sing songs of
each of the Northern European countries and learn about the Christian
year in those lands. There will be crafts depicting the land of the
constant sun, rhythm fun games based on the Dalcroze method, fun time
with games Scandinavian children would play, and traditional American
snacks. The singing campers will participate in the 10:30 a.m. worship
on Sunday, June 24, as they share their Scandinavian fun with the
congregation. They will sing an Estonian folksong learned in camp on
Sunday, July 1, as we take an offering to support the Estonian mission
team to the 100 year old church in Reekyla later in July. Camp will be
9:00am – 12:00pm each of the three days. Watch for future information on
registration and how you can be involved in the camp.
