Fill the Food Buckets for Africa

This is a reminder that Broadway has 30 food buckets to fill for the 2010 Holston Annual Conference Hands-On Mission Project to Liberia and Zimbabwe. The progress so far is very exciting! To make it easy for you, there are boxes at each entrance to the church that are labeled for Food Bucket Donations. Just drop your food items in the boxes, and the Mission team will pack the buckets later. You have all the month of May to help with this project.

Food Items Needed:
5 lb. bags of corn meal
2 lb. bags of dried beans
5 lb. bags of sugar
2 lb. bags of rice
small boxes of Splenda
48 oz. bottles of cooking oil
boxes of regular tea bags
2 lb. canned hams (2 1-lb. hams or 1 2-lb. ham)
5 lb. bags of self-rising flour
9 oz. or smaller boxes of powdered milk
$5 to cover shipping of each bucket is also needed

Conference Mission Project

On Sunday, May 16 we will take a special offering for the Conference Mission Project in Southern Sudan. The offering will go to complete the 19 wells in and around Yei. That means that every Methodist Church in the area will have clean drinking water, something we take for granted here in America. Pray and then give according to how God would have you give. What a blessing you will receive in return.

Squares Are Still Needed

All of you who knit and crochet are asked to donate some of your knitting time to making 8-inch squares for Bible School’s mission project. The children will be sewing them together into blankets. Please use “I Love This Yarn” (Hobby Lobby carries it), size 8 needles or a G or H hook. Number of stitches needed for 8 inches is around 30-35. Leave them in the office when you bring them to the church.

With Much Appreciation

Thank you to everyone for your support and prayers during our difficult time. We have been truly blessed by your thoughtfulness and generosity. We are so glad to be a part of the Broadway church family. May God Bless you all.

Phyllis Donaldson, William & Stephanie Mogridge

Dear Friends,

I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns while I was in the hospital and rehab for my hip replacement. Also thanks to Pastor Amy, Frank Mason, Gerald McFarland and Ron Pyron for all their visits. A special thanks to Arlene and Jack Mendelsohn, Nan Taylor and Dr. Sue Ivens for the special care they gave me. Last but not least a thanks to the Knit-wits for the beautiful prayer shawl.

Women’s Health

“Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me!” Luke 10:40 NLT

Are you a Mary who is eager to sit back and learn new things or a Martha who worries about the details of a job and is upset when others can’t multitask? Throughout the ages women have been taught to be organizers, nurtures, and caretakers for others while neglecting their own needs and desires. Even today you are expected to be superwomen and excel in the roles of wife, mothers, daughter, volunteer, employee, caretaker, protector, and businesswomen. Unfortunately while accomplishing these tasks, women forget the most important tasks of a healthy life - balance and self-care.

You probably intellectually understand the importance of annual checkups and health screenings but often find excuses to ignore health issues because of the belief that caring for others is more important. In order to have the energy to care for others, it is important that you practice wholistic self-care. This means taking the time to rest, enjoy friends, and care for self.

Caring for the mind, spirit, and relationships through hobbies, meditation, morning devotions, lunch with friends, date or family night with a spouse or family will establish balance and stability. These activities will result in lower blood pressure, peace of mind, greater enjoyment of family, and renewed energy to tackle the difficulties of life and are just as important as medical appointments and screenings where health issues can be found before they become serious issues.

Being too involved in you work allows very little time for other things in life so take a look at how your day is spent and ask yourself how you can re-prioritize your activities. Plan ways to add personal time to your day and practice those changes. By balancing the work and fun in your life, you will experience immediate benefits of greater joy and fewer headaches. Save This Date

To celebrate the birthday of the church we will have dinner on the grounds at Louisville Point Park on Pentecost Sunday, May 23. We will gather after the second service at 11:45. Put this date on your calendar and plan to attend. Look for details as we get closer to the date.

A Word From the Library

Thanks so much for all the good volunteer work that has gone into re-painting shelves and brightening our church library. A special thanks to Bob Tiebout and Jack Parham for building and installing the wonderful shelves in the hallway. Now we are in the process of re-organizing and re-shelving our collection. This will take a while, but please continue to check out books as usual (if you can find them.) Concerning the audio-visual collection in the hallway shelves, please use the sign-out in the spiral notebook as directed. Thank your for your patience.
