“Women
Of Faith”
Women in the Bible are examples of faith and courage. On
Mother’s Day 2007 we will look at a woman in I Kings 17:8-16 who in her
desperation feeds a man she does not know. She believes she is preparing
her last meal, because there is no more grain in the storehouse. Rather
than being stingy and telling the man to get lost, she prepares all the
food she has for the stranger and her son. When she goes back to the
storehouse she finds food for several more days. A miracle has occurred
due to her generosity.
We are told that God will provide if we are living by faith. Women have
traditionally been nurtures and providers. This woman must have felt bad
for her son, who was destined to starve with her. Why was his future
being denied? She had done all she could do. She still responded with
generosity to a stranger (Elijah). Would you?
We will recognize mothers on Sunday. We will see some great examples of
faith. Come and celebrate. Come and learn.
In Christ,

Mother’s Day Music
The Chancel Choir will join with the Children’s Choir this Sunday
to sing the Mary Kay Beall and John Carter moving tribute to mothers everywhere.
The anthem includes a parent’s concern for the love of our children and the
child’s response to the love given and received. The title tells part of the
story, “God Gives Us Those Who Love Us,” but you need to be in worship at
10:30am Sunday to hear the rest of the story.
The Children’s Choir will sing during the offering using a text by John
Masefield,” And she who gives a baby birth Brings Savior Christ again to earth,”
altered and arranged by Natalie Sleeth, a preeminent children’s music composer
and arranger. The anthem, “Ev’ry Child,” asserts that every child is a gift of
love sent to us by God, filled with promises yet unknown, like the baby born on
Christmas night.
Broadway Presents Coming May 20
On Sunday, May 20, at 3:00pm, BROADWAY PRESENTS features all our
musical organizations as they bring this spring season to a close. The Chancel
Choir will sing some of the familiar anthems heard during worship this year
while the children’s choir will sing a medley of Psalm-related songs with
recitations of many Psalm passages they have learned. The handbells will ring
some old, some new, some borrowed and some “Blues” with a little twist thrown
in. This will be good fun for the entire family. Come and enjoy the sounds of
worship and God’s new creation.

When
God passed out talent, Broadway members were at the front of the line! The
music, poetry, art and all handmade items were outstanding. Our young people who
participated assure us that our church future is in good hands and our parents
are training their children to share the gifts God has given them. I heard lots
of “I didn’t know he/she could do that” as we viewed the displays and listened
to the presentations. What a blessing we received! Thank you to all who answered
the call to share your talent for our Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinner and join
in making a memorable evening for all of us.

To Chattanooga
Ladies, mark your calendar for a mission trip
to Chattanooga. We will be going to the Bethlehem Community Center on June 30
and learn about their work in the southside area of Chattanooga, leaving the
church by bus at 8:30 a.m. We will have lunch at the Gallery Café at 12:30 p.m.
This is a tearoom in an Antique Mall.
The Bethlehem Community Center is one of Holston Conference’s agencies and
receives funds for their work in an after school program similar to the Wesley
House Community Center in Knoxville. We will be taking some items to help them
in this program. Items needed are notebook paper, pencils, magic markers,
crayons, erasers, and/or a story book.
After lunch we will have some free time before heading home. Please mark your
calendar for June 30 and plan to be with us. Watch the Messenger for information
about making reservations for this trip.
Let’s
Have Lunch At The Buttercup Tearoom
For our May Odyssey we will be returning to a
favorite place. On Thursday, May 24, we will leave the church at 11:00 a.m. and
travel to Lenoir City to have lunch at the Buttercup Tearoom. Following lunch we
will see what is new in the Cranberry Hollow gift shop. Each person will order
from the menu and pay for their own lunch. Upon returning home we will collect
money for the bus. Reservations need to be made by Monday, May 21
