“To
Be Blessed”
The writer of the Book of Hebrews says that faith is “the assurance of
things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” What does God
bring? God brings love, forgiveness, hope and promise to a world in
turmoil and sin. Tragedy and the result of sin are evident in the world
today. Human nature can be selfish and destructive. God’s love can
redeem and change us for the better.
Sunday we will observe God’s love. We will have the opportunity to
reflect on what God has done for us. God is in control. He has not
forsaken us, and will not let us go unattended. We will have the
opportunity to be in communion with God. We will be able to feel His
transforming nature and power. God loves you. Come and receive the
blessing.
Blessings,

Drive). Take the first driveway on the left at the red barn.
CAN
Sunday
This Sunday, October 7, is CAN Sunday. This is the
time each month when we bring non-perishable items to Sunday school and
worship to share with our less fortunate neighbors in Blount County.
Items needed include peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, flour,
sugar, corn meal, shortening, cereal, canned meat, paper products, and
baby food.
Altar
Flowers Price Increase
Beginning January, 2008, the price for altar flowers
in honor or in memory of someone will increase from $35 to $40. The $35
price has been in effect for years, and most florists charge more for a
nice arrangement. They are also charging a delivery fee of at least $6.
The Altar Guild is trying to keep the price in line by offering to pick
up the arrangements that are ordered. If you have flowers in your yard
that could be used in arrangements, please bring them to the church and
put them in the cooler. Or call Judy at the office, Suzanne Martin at
977-4139 or Nan Taylor at 984-8585, and we will pick them up. Your
flowers will be greatly appreciated and will help hold down our costs!
BUMC Foothills Fall Festival
Water Brigade
Broadway is excited to help host visitors from all over the world as
they come to explore Maryville and the Foothills Fall Festival. We are
in a great location to open our doors and offer hospitality and the Love
of Christ. That Love may be offering a cool glass of water, a quiet
place to sit, good conversation, or a clean place to change a diaper.
How can you help?
To make the best use of our hospitality we need families, Sunday school
classes and individuals to help. Gather a group or come alone and sign
up for a 2 hour (or more) time slot. Jobs include: handing out water,
giving directions to the restrooms or diaper changing stations, and just
talking with people as they come in. Sign up in the narthex in the back
of the sanctuary.
Time schedule to volunteer are:
Friday, October 12 - 11:00-1:30; 1:30-3:30; and 3:30-6:00
Saturday, October 13 - 9:30-11:30; 11:30-1:30; 1:30-3:30; 3:30-6:00
Sunday, October 14 - 11:00-1:30; 1:30-3:30; 3:30-5:30
