"Be It Ever So Humble”
Paul had to deal with much opposition when he talked about Jesus. He was even placed in prison for his teaching and preaching in the name of Jesus. Paul knows that the Spirit of Christ can unify a diverse community of believers. He pleads with the Philippians to place others above their own selfish desires and allow Christ Jesus to guide and direct them. When Christ is present to direct we can move forward with confidence and humility. It is not easy to humble oneself.

Sunday we will look at emptying ourselves to give Christ first place in our hearts. What does it mean to be humble? Come and see what Paul told the Philippians and how he challenges us today. Come and receive a blessing.
                                               Blessings,

September Planned
We have had several requests to return to the Mast General Store on Gay Street for some shopping. On Thursday, September 27, we will leave the church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. to head to Knoxville for some shopping time followed by lunch at 11:30 at the Downtown Grill and Brewery. Each person will order from the menu and pay for their own lunch. Upon our return we will collect money for gas. Please make reservations with Judy in the church office, 982-6192, by Monday, September 24.

Wednesday Children’s Program
3:30-4:00 - Children’s Choir (1st grade - 4th grade)
Son Beam Singers (3ish yr. old -
Kindergarten)
4:15-4:45 - Discovery Club (3yr. old -4th grade)
4:15-4:45 - Children’s Handbells (3rd grade -
6th grade)

Sunday’s Anthem Theme: Humility
This Sunday the Chancel Choir will sing Kyrie eleison set by Dana Mengel. This text is the opening of the traditional Christian service and was normally set in Greek. It prepares us for worship through words of humbleness – Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy. We acknowledge that God guides our lives and we must give ourselves to His will if we are to truly be His disciples. God sent His Son to humble himself before the world. It is through His life on earth that we understand how God would have us live as His disciples, and through His sacrifice on the cross that we gain the promise of eternal life.

Fast Approaches
Begin thinking about ways you would like to participate in Broadway’s time during the Foothills Fall Festival, October 12-14. We will need lots of volunteers to provide hospitality services at the church during the festival. The parking lot will be filled with entertainment and a display by 10,000 Villages, a cooperative effort between Broadway and the Blount County Ecumenical Council. Plan now to volunteer for this great weekend of fun, entertainment, and outreach.

Want To Know More About
Wheat and Oak Ridge

Don Watson has made available 3 DVD’s that he has concerning the history of Wheat, where he grew up, and it’s incorporation into the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge. They include annual home comings of former residents of Wheat held there each October, another about the whole transformation of the area during World War II, and finally the Heartland Series episode in which Don takes Bill Landry back into what remains of the old home place.

Don would like to allow anyone who would like to borrow these to view them and return them. They will be available in the church library on the cupboard to the left of the door. Please sign your name, and the date you borrow them. When you return them, sign them in on the small notebook on the library table. He asks that they be kept together.

Those who attended the recent trip to Wheat and the museum got a taste of the rich history of the area. You might like to view it in more detail.
