“Envious
Comparisons”
Do you compare yourself to other people? As human beings we have a
tendency to look around and see if others are better or worse off than
we are. Jesus had committed no evil, and yet He had people who wanted to
get rid of Him because they did not understand His mission. Jesus had
lived a life of sacrificial love and He had people questioning His
motives, and His sincerity. Jesus kept to the cause of serving God not
counting the cost of what would happen to Him personally.
Do you have faith that will stand the test of time and trial? When we
are envious of others we never seem to develop our full potential. We
become defensive and greed and arrogance can get a foothold. Sunday we
will look at how Jesus was compared to others, and was rejected. He kept
to His standard of faithful obedience. Life is not fair. However we must
keep to the course of obedience in our relationship to the one who
created us and placed us here for a purpose - God!
Blessings,

Choir Sings “Rock” Song Sunday
This Sunday the Chancel Choir will sing Joseph Martin’s
setting of Luke 19:40 when Jesus said to the Pharisees, upon their demand that
His disciples stop shouting His praises as He entered Jerusalem, “I tell you, if
these were silent, the stones would shout out.” Mr. Martin in “Let the Rocks
Keep Their Silence” affirms that if we continue to praise God and to silence the
doubters, indeed the rocks will keep silent since God’s people are shouting His
praise. He says for the rocks to keep silent and let God’s people shout His
praise. The people’s enthusiasm was misdirected later in the story (Mark
15:6-15) when the crowd shouted for Barabbas to be set free and for Jesus to be
crucified. But the rest of the story is told on Easter morning when the ROCK was
rolled away and the risen Lord triumphed over death in the grave. So, as Jesus
declared coming down from the Mount of Olives, the Rocks really did shout their
praise, in the absence of human praise, as He appeared once again in the world.
Even the rocks of the tomb could not hold Him.

BUMC Foothills Fall Festival Water Brigade
Broadway is excited to help host visitors from all
over the world as they come to explore Maryville and the Foothills Fall
Festival. We are in a great location to open our doors and offer
hospitality and the Love of Christ. That Love may be offering a cool
glass of water, a quiet place to sit, good conversation, or a clean
place to change a diaper.
How can you help?
To make the best use of our hospitality we need families, Sunday school
classes and individuals to help. Gather a group or come alone and sign
up for a 2 hour (or more) time slot. Jobs include: handing out water,
giving directions to the restrooms or diaper changing stations, and just
talking with people as they come in. Sign up in the narthex in the back
of the sanctuary.
Time schedule to volunteer are:
Friday, October 12 - 11:00-1:30; 1:30-3:30; and 3:30-6:00
Saturday, October 13 - 9:30-11:30; 11:30-1:30; 1:30-3:30; 3:30-6:00

Fifth
Sunday Offering This Month
Each of us can make a small difference in the life of a
child at Holston United Methodist Home for Children. All of us together
can make a very large difference. You can help to transform the life of
a child who needs to experience love, forgiveness, and wholeness. We
will receive a special offering on September 30th to support this vital
ministry. Please be prepared to give generously.

If anyone would like to donate a scholarship for
the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace classes that are coming at the end of

in the class. If you feel led to donate to this, or would like more
information about the class, please contact Lori Wade at 984-3693 or
Charlie at 982-4235.
