“To
Nag”
Sunday we will observe the Canaanite woman who knew the pain of not
being able to do everything on her own, and had to rely upon the
gracious power of Jesus. She knew that only by the healing hand of God
that her daughter could be better. Being a cultural outcast she had to
make a pest out of herself to be recognized. The disciples said, “Send
her away, she is crying after us.” In a sense she nagged her way into an
audience with Jesus. Jesus received her plea.
Sunday we will look at how we get our needs met. Do we nag? Do we expect
others to drop everything and pay attention to us? Do we need a higher
power? All of these questions seem legitimate. Let us look at this
passage from Matthew, Chapter 15:21-28 and see if it applies to us. We
hope to you see Sunday.
In Christ,

BUMC Foothills Fall Festival
Water Brigade
Broadway is excited to help host visitors from all over the world as
they come to explore Maryville and the Foothills Fall Festival. We are
in a great location to open our doors and offer hospitality and the Love
of Christ. That Love may be offering a cool glass of water, a quiet
place to sit, good conversation, or a clean place to change a diaper.
How can you help?
To make the best use of our hospitality we need families, Sunday school
classes and individuals to help. Gather a group or come alone and sign
up for a 2 hour (or more) time slot. Jobs include: handing out water,
giving directions to the restrooms or diaper changing stations, and just
talking with people as they come in. Sign up in the narthex in the back
of the sanctuary.
Time schedule to volunteer are:
Friday, October 12 - 11:00-1:30; 1:30-3:30; and 3:30-6:00
Saturday, October 13 - 9:30-11:30; 11:30-1:30; 1:30-3:30; 3:30-6:00
Sunday, October 14 - 11:00-1:30; 1:30-3:30; 3:30-5:30
Choir and Handbells Share in Worship
This Sunday 10:30am worship the Chancel Choir will
sing Mark Hayes medley, We Raise Our Grateful Praise, featuring four
familiar hymns: “For the Beauty of the Earth,” “We Gather Together,” “We
Will Glorify,” and “Let All Things Now Living.” Much like gratefulness
the Canaanite women felt when Jesus finally acknowledged her faith and
healed her daughter, the anthem ends with these familiar words, “’til
all things now living unite in thanksgiving to God in the highest,
Hosanna and praise”
The
Epworth Bells will prepare us for worship with a grand handbell
procession followed by Hugh Livingston’s “Prelude on an English Melody.”
The opening hymn of praise is “All People That on Earth Do Dwell” set to
the familiar tune, Old 100th - more commonly known as “The Doxology.”
Ring
in Children’s Handbells
The children are having a great time in handbells. They have
already learned to cross and stretch, ring in proper ovals, dampen
appropriately, and play simple melodies and chords. There is room for
more ringers wanting to learn to bong bells. The group rehearses
Wednesdays, 4:15pm-4:45pm, in the handbell room on the fifth elevator
level.
