Broadway’s United Methodist Men

is a multi- generational, creative, supportive fellowship of men whose primary purpose is to help its members know God, grow spiritually, and seek His will daily. Members are encouraged to participate in the total life of the church and to declare the centrality of Christ in their lives and in all their relationships.

Membership is open to all male members of the congregation and the community.

Activities occur throughout the year and include:

Constructing a new porch at Camp Wesley Woods

Attending the Holston Conference “Day with the Bishop”

Sponsoring a Spring Wildflower Hike to White Oak Sinks

Maintenance projects at the sanctuary and parsonage

Nativity Scene at Asbury Place, Maryville

Sponsoring the Faithful Servant of Jesus Christ Award

Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month throughout the year at Asbury Place Maryville (formerly Asbury Acres). The meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast. Around 9:00 a.m. the men gather for a time of devotion and a brief business meeting that usually ends by 10:00 a.m. Often the group goes on to work on a scheduled project.

Fundraising events throughout the year provide the financial resources needed to support the Youth Scholarship Fund and other worthwhile projects. For example, in 2009, the United Methodist Men led the Broadway UMC response to the Camp Wesley Woods Capital Campaign by making a three-year pledge. There are three fundraising events this year.

Spring Golf Tournament – Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Rarity Bay

Fall Golf Tournament - Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Laurel Valley

Pancake Breakfast – usually the first Saturday in December to coincide with the Maryville/Alcoa Christmas Parade. This festive event features all-you-can-eat regular or (our now famous) blueberry pancakes. Sausage and orange juice complete the menu. After breakfast, everyone heads outside to enjoy the parade.

The Faithful Servant of Jesus Christ Award

A church cannot function with only a paid staff. Many volunteers are needed to keep the church alive and growing. Several of our members give freely of their time and talents serving others and living a life representative of a true Christian. Every year, the UMM sponsor an award to honor a member from our congregation who represents the true nature of a Christian servant, but who have not been recognized for their service to others. Each Fall the UMM solicit nominations from the congregation at large. The congregation then selects the recipient and the UMM present the award in January.

Annual Meeting  The UMM celebrate the past year in January with an Annual Dinner Meeting that concludes with the official installation of new officers.
