We invite everyone who wishes to use their musical talents to join one of the many opportunities at Broadway. Through music we communicate our love and understanding of the Christian faith and are motivated to a keener sense of celebration and devotion. Using our varied talents, we glorify God and praise His Holy name.
THE CHANCEL CHOIR for youth and adults rehearses Wednesday evenings 7:30pm to 9:00pm. This is a worship choir dedicated to embracing Christ’s presence in every worship encounter. Reading music is not a prerequisite for joining the choir. The choir sings during 10:35 Sunday morning worship, presents music during festival occasions such as Christmas and Easter, and sings for special occasions throughout the year.
THE ELEMENTARY CHOIR for children in grades one through four meets in the choir room every Wednesday 3:30pm - 4:00pm.
THE SONSHINE CHOIR for pre-schoolers meets at the same time in the Children's Division. Children learn basic music, arts and crafts, games, and music programs that are shared during Sunday morning worship and for special occasions. The praise of God and the love of Jesus Christ guide their experience in choir
THE ADULT HANDBELL PROGRAM includes a five-octave choir and two quartet ensembles. Solos and duets are taught and encouraged as well. Traditionally, the ensembles participate in AGEHR area conferences and other festivals and gatherings. They also play for special programs during Christmas, Easter, and other festival times of the year.
THE CHILDREN’S HANDBELL PROGRAM for third through eighth graders challenges children and youth to use their musical skills to praise God and develop basic ringing techniques. They learn to ring bells and change-ringing patterns. No music background is necessary to ring bells, but it helps.
THE OLD CHIMERS at Asbury Place in Maryville is an extension ministry of Broadway UMC. Older adults at the retirement center learn to play handchimes as they develop musical skills. For some, this is their first time playing any musical instrument. Anyone at Asbury is encouraged to play in this group. Social contact and shared relationships are central to maintaining good health as one grows “more mature.” The Old Chimers is an opportunity to keep in contact with friends and acquaintances.
Bob Ergenbright, Director of Music, provides free one-half hour private voice lessons for members of the choirs. Since his studio is limited, lessons are provided based on auditions, consistent participation, recommendations and avability
KINDERMUSIK is an educational experience for children ages 0–7, taught. Each Kindermusik class is a world of discovery and adventure. In every class, parents witness their child's developmental evolution in language skills, literacy, listening, problem solving, social skills, self-esteem, and musicality. And it happens within a nurturing environment-full of energy, imagination, music, dancing, and playful delight. For more information, CLICK HERE to contact Kindermusik directly.
